The purpose of the paper is to determine the influence of composition and preparation conditions on physicochemical and mechanical properties of clay-based matrices containing radioactive silt. It has been shown that red clay from "Zykovskaya" career (Krasnoyarsk region, Russia) is preferable for use as a matrix for incorporating the silt sediments compared to kaolin, loam and bentonite due to the maximum values tensile strength and minimal change in ultimate strength for compression after irradiation, freezing and water exposure.
