The textured surfaces change wettability from a hydrophilic to a hydrophobic wall in a wide range of the initial static contact angle of the drop. The evaporation of a drop on a textured surface is compared to that on a smooth (non-structured) wall. The wall textures lead to heat and mass transfer enhancement and to evaporation rate increase, which is due to an intensification of free convection in the liquid. Estimates of heat transfer enhancement due to several key factors are provided. Experiments on the evaporation of a film of a colloidal aqueous solution under spot laser heating are carried out on a textured wall.
