330 _aWaystage 1990 is a statement of language learning objectives which sets out how learners should oe able to use English in order to cope with everyday communication (at around lower-intermediate level). It specifies the most essential situations, topics, functions and notions, and their simplest lexical and grammatical exponents. Further specifications include sociocultural competence, learning to learn, pronunciation and intonation. Waystage 1990 is the latest re-designed version of a document which was first published by the Council of Europe in 1977, ana again in 1990.
