330 _aInfrared thermography is a fast and contactless inspection technique which is widely used to measure diffusivity as well as to detect impact damage in aerospace composites. Unlike metals, low velocity impact produces extended damage on the rear surface of composite parts thereby posing a significant threat to structural integrity. Front-face thermographic methods are of vital importance in cases where the rear surface is inaccessible for application of conventional transmission techniques. In this paper, we present two different techniques, namely, laser flash intransmission method and recently introduced one-sided thermographic method, to determine thermal diffusivity and characterize impact damage in carbon/epoxy composite.
