330 _aBased on the recent proof of the existence of a critical length scale controlling mechanisms of adhesive wear, we discuss conditions under which the energy dissipation rate and the wear rate in oscillating contacts may become uncoupled. This potentially opens up a possibility of using frictional damping with low wear rate.
